PAST 3 MONTHS EVENTS: CERT members quarterly meeting was held July 28th @ station 19 with 20 attending. Summer BBQ on August 23rd was a great turnout with 40 members.Sept.20th, 8 members attended the annual Citizens Corp Conference in Concord. Manchester Airport Drill took place also on Sept 20th with 12 CERT members made up as “victims” .Our officers met once each, in the months of Aug, Sept, and Oct. for their monthly board meetings. Oct.4th “Quake of 08” Drill held in various areas of Goffstown was attended by 25 CERT members and 12 volunteer victims. Oct 18th Goffstown hosted its Pumpkin Regatta, 7 CERT members manned the tent and we had 3 new sign ups. Safety Day held in Hannafords parking lot on Oct 25th with 4 members serving. Goffstown CERT also served Nashua in their mock drill on Oct 26 th. Our Director asks members for ideas of any changes they may like to see.
UPCOMING EVENTS/TRAINING: Our 9th CERT Basic Training Course was held at Station 19 on Oct 25th with the 2nd ½ being held on Nov 8th with 16 attending. Goffstown CERT is asked to participate at a Londonderry rescue drill on Nov. 8th. Nov. 18th @ the rodeo committee will meet in Concord to discuss the planning of a statewide Rodeo. ICS 100 and 700 courses will be available to our members to pass @ the Goffstown Police Department on Nov. 22nd from to . A Red Cross Volunteer may teach a free ham radio class in Jan. of 09. CERT is planning to host a chain saw course in the spring. Public Works plans to offer more training to CERT in traffic control.
OPERATIONS: Some CERT members need their hands on training in fire suppression . A new EOP has been completed and forwarded to the State. Cert will create a list of animal support shelters, to be used by Goffstown, Weare, New Boston, Manchester and Bedford. NIMS mandates the 100 and 700 courses be passed by members on or before Dec. 31st, 2008. Members were encouraged to ask for help if they need it to get these courses passed in time. NIMS will have more course requirements by 2010. Logistics Officer gave information on preparing for winter weather such as dress in layers, extra items in packs, etc. He also passed out items to members who had them missing. Logistics Officer gave training on the proper use of our hand held communicators. Members were asked to get their ID tags done, were told how to do this, and were told why it was important to have this done.
BUSINESS: On Nov 2nd, Manchester Marathon invites us to help with traffic control. We would like to have more training for our members on Sheltering and Triage after the 1st of the year. Some cuts were made to meet the budget. CERT is in need of a new or used laptop. Our Directors Challenge: “Go to your manual to reacquaint yourself with information from triage, sheltering, building infrastructure, or anything you may need to renew yourself with. John Moore spoke of a Radio Club with a class available for additional radio training. We now have 15 pairs of rubber boots.
