Introduction: Susan Jutras began the meeting by introducing Phil, a member of Derry CERT.
He was present at the meeting to get a better idea of how Goffstown CERT is run and possibly implement some ideas into the running of Derry CERT.
Events: Susan went over CERT events of the last 3 months. In April 2009, 11 CERT members completed basic training. Four CERT members attended an Odd Fellows meeting, Joyce, Sandra, Ron and Sue. In May, there was a line search training that some members attended. Fish and Game would like to conduct and advanced training on Mt.Uncanoonic in the fall. Also in May, there was a CPR training in Amherst that 3 people attended. There was also an officers meeting in May at Goffstown PD. All team leaders were present for that meeting. 41 attended the CERT graduation at GHS. Out of the 12 trained, Goffstown gained 11 new members. We are now at 72 members. New Boston gained one new member. Susan recognized the new CERT members. Team 17 had a get together and did an Adopt a Spot. 5 members attended. Susan noted that CERT participates in Adopt a Spot as a community service as we are federally funded. There was a chain saw training in New Boston. CERT manned a booth at Goffstown Old Home days in June. 11 members helped with this. In June, Al and Sue attended a CERT coordinators meeting in Concord. 6 members attended a HAM radio class. All that attended passed with almost 100% scores. Sue recognized the members that attended. HAM radio is featured on a recent episode of NH Chronicle. There was a monthly board meeting at the PD. In June, 16 Goffstown CERT members attended the 6th annual Emergency Preparedness Conference at the Radisson in Manchester. Team 18 did an Adopt a Spot. CERT members helped with the 31st annual Goffstown Gallop. Members manned water stations and used HAM radios. There was a monthly board meeting this month, July.
Training: Ron Michaud noted that ride along applications are available at the Goffstown PD . He noted that summer is generally not a good time to do it due to various reasons and members should wait until fall when the scheduling returns to normal. Dottie will scan the application and send it out electronically. Members should try to give the PD a week or so notice. Call them at 497-4858. There are 15 HAM operators in Goffstown CERT. There is a HAM training at Parks and Rec. on 7/19. Sept. 18 there is a Shelter Ops and Simulation Training at Maple Ave. that they are awaiting confirmation on. Proposed time is . Shelter training is important as CERT opened up shelters 4 and 1/2 times in 3 and 1/2 years. There is a possible shelter manager training on Sept. 20 at Parks and Rec. from 6-9. You must have completed shelter training to attended shelter manager training. Mark your calendar for an all day training exercise on November 6 in Goffstown.
Operations: There is a CERT barbecue scheduled for August 22 at the BarnardPark pavilion that will be rain or shine. Dottie needs 2 or 3 volunteers to help with this. Karen Pratt volunteered and will be asking for assistance. The Police Dept. open house is not Aug. 3 and will be postponed to Sept. They will be asking for volunteers to be used for guides and to man an information booth. The Pumpkin Regatta is Oct. 16 and 17 in the GoffstownVillage. Dottie also noted that it is important to relay your monthly hours to her even if you have 0 hours and notify her of your change of contact info. Small group meetings will be held on the 3 rd Monday of the month at Parks and rec. and larger group meetings will be held on the 3rd Thursday at the Odd Fellows hall. Al Raymond noted that Hannaford Safety Day is usually held on a Saturday in October. Oct. 30th he thinks.
Logistics: For new members that have completed IS 100 and 700, equipment will be issued on Sept. 24 at around at the police dept. The Southern NH Region Planning Commission that is comprised of 13 towns would like to implement an outreach program to teach people to plan for emergencies. Al has been to a few meetings in that they would like Goffstown CERT and other CERTs to support them in the future. They would like a presence at the Deerfield and Hillsborough County Fairs. Chief Sullivan is on the board for Goffstown. They would like to launch in Sept. for preparedness month. Al reiterated the importance of getting monthly hours to Dottie. He has to send a quarterly report noting our monthly hours and this justifies our funding and grants.
Business: Susan introduced Mike Walton, our official liaison for Goffstown Public Works. Mike has donated lots of hours for Goffstown CERT. She is also working on a meeting with the fire department chief so that more activities can be coordinated together. Sue recognized the 7 CERT members going to New Mexico for the Homeland Security-sponsored training. The course is on July 26-29 and the topic is explosives and IEDs. Sue noted the rules for the use of the Odd Fellows hall. Sue gave out some awards to members. She encouraged members to attend the Odd Fellows breakfasts on the first and third Sunday of the month. See the Odd Fellows website for more info. She issued her directors challenge: sign up for at least one training in the upcoming quarter. The next meeting is on Thursday, October 21.
